I'm embarrassed to say, my favorite scene was lunch lol . I LMAO when everyone dives in...and Mubai & ZZQ, as expected and in true regal/royal form...simply 🥂 wine glasses🤣--Level 100 table manners😂. I love this couple. ZZQ spent the better part of S1 playing hard to get, so seeing her risk life and limb now for Mubai is soooo satisfying. She's such a keeper.

BTW--maybe it's just my imagination, but did ZZQ's VA sound different to anyone else?

Ikr, when I was watching this, I thought to myself, “Oh no they did a snippity snip snip on @douluo’s fav scene.”

Not sure if they changed the Voice Actors but if there’s one thing in terms of production quality (not the storyline) that they can improve on, it should be the VA for TS. He doesn’t quite come off as the elegant, graceful and composed dream guy that TS is. Oscar’s VA or even Mubai’s sounds better than TS’s.

For that I highly recommend the audiobook although I barely understand much myself. But seriously the voice actor for TS did such a remarkable job, I could hear TS’s every expression and emotion through his voice alone.

Mubai & ZZQ are slowly becoming my fav couple after Oscar and NRR. And yes, I saw the “royal toast”! 🤣 love those small details they put in!

I also read that some Chinese fans were criticising the production team for wasting time showing XW chasing after butterflies all the time! For once, I actually disagree with their complaints. Her character is already so lame and she hardly does anything, so I think it’s justified to give her a few seconds here and there looking cute next to TS. I’d take this version of XW over a bossy XW anytime.

But yeah it sure would have been great to see the kiss, along with Fatty's gloating. Poor XX...she wasn't around all those years when Shrek was making headlines, so she's only now realizing the power gap...and now having to snog with Fatty LOL. The comedic sides were pretty funny too, like this one:

Yes you’re right, it’s an ad for the mobile game. They just did the live version (tv drama) not too long ago and they completely screwed it up. A movie is unlikely because the producers already announced the upcoming animation sequel for DD.

They are focussing more on their huge animation fanbase. On top of that, the drama fans are waiting for their Season 2 (because they ended the drama right after Papa Tang Hao took his son and XW away at the competition).

So they have enough options with the DD series at the moment. Movies are expensive and the return is not guaranteed especially during these post-COVID times.

By the way, to reply your last comment, the reason for XW’s high endurance is due to the two herbs that she took: the heartbreak flower and the ginseng from TS's granduncle. That was at least the wishy washy reason given by the author, more like a plot armour than anything else.

It's best they don't do LA movie cause usually it's not as good or never good at all.

I must say, the Seagod stairs are like the stairway to heaven. Very impressive! They seem to have changed the story quite a bit to elevate their female characters. I’m glad because I think the author is a bit of a misogynist except for his beloved XW, which was modelled after his late wife.

In the novel, Xiang Xiang actually was supposed to kiss Fatty for 30 mins in her one and only test. It’s a pity they changed that, I don’t get to see Fatty gloat over his “moment” in front of the boys. But then again, I’m all for equality. The boys sometimes are just too smug. ZZQ especially is the most neglected female character out of the 7 devils.

Furthermore, ZZQ did not rescue Mubai when he was shot out into the sea but I prefer this version. In the novel, the sea creatures would never attack them because they have the seal on their forehead. This is also why Xiang Xiang was attacked when she followed them to the stairs because her seal disappeared once she successfully completed her test.

Now I’m actually curious to see how they add the drama of XW into the story. I mentioned many times, XW was reduced to a caricature of a human doll here in Seagod island. All she does is to piggyback on TS to complete her test. She only needs to get back into her body at the final moment when TS was about to finish his test. So much about the rising difficulty with every level. Hers is a red test just like Ning Rong Rong’s, but you’ll see why I often need to reach out for my punching bag when she got the highest reward in the end for doing nothing.

In the novel, XW was pissed with TS for suppressing her during the Demonic Whale attack but in the Donghua she clearly came out without resistance when TS was sinking to his death.

This is where the drama starts! XW got back into her body and voila she magically climbed 50 steps without raising a sweat where Mubai was shot out at 37! Throughout her climb, she pretty much ignored TS and glared at him showing her discontent. When she came down again, she called TS by his full name which apparently that was when TS knew he was in deep shit. Then we have the first out of the many admonishments of XW to TS throughout their time in Seagod Island. 🙄

From the preview, it looks like they are sticking to the novel. At least she looks pissed when she rushes to the stairs. This is why I just can’t find any reason to like her. I can’t stand childish, nitpicky and overbearing female characters. But of course, many female fans love her to death saying how cute and how so very sacrificial she is. However, there seems to be a gender divide here. I’m not the only one who doesn’t share their enthusiasm.

These are always great! - Idk man, I’d say the fact that TS is always coddling XW, then she gets super powers like it was nothing and saves TS, sort of makes her a Mary Sue? Although you have to wonder if this was a self-insert by author with his wife, gotta wonder how that relationship went IRL lol - that info about the author you gave is pretty interesting.

XW is definitely a Mary Sue. Sometimes I have a feeling that the author is completely stuck with his self-insertion that all he wants is to immortalise his wife in his stories.

I’ve written about the real life story of the author before but since the comments got wiped out, I’ll just give you a brief rundown:

The author’s wife died of cancer when he was still writing his third sequel of DD. In all his DD stories, whenever XW made an appearance, the author would insist on her wearing her long scorpion braid even when she’s a mother of two grownup children.

I was actually getting a little tired of his obsession with her scorpion braid until I read that his wife used to have long black hair which she wore in a braid. She cut her braid just before she went for her chemo as a gift for her husband that he would always remember her in her long hair.

It’s a bit of a sob story but unfortunately the author had sucked all the sympathy and patience from his fans dry.He had to inflict pain and suffering on every pair in his stories and when he finally wrote XW off in his 4th sequel, he inserted this big sob scene of her dying and cutting her braid for TS. Then he made TS killed himself for her saying that he would go to the end of the universe to find her back.
Sorry, not sorry, I just think he’s overdone it.

Lets not forget that XW is a 100 thousand years old beast so her soul power is probably comparable to those two titans in the beast forest. climbing 50 steps should be easy for her.

Yeah they made some changes here and it wouldn't surprise me if they continue to make more. And tbh it wouldn't bother me much--I'd rather they use the time/budget to faithfully adapt the more story-centric mainland material. The only problem is that TS's narrative explanations/supplements are enormously helpful, and since only a part can be practically included here, it's possible the SG Trials may feel rushed/hokey.

Yes it's forced romance on viewers.like they also brought xiang like why should I care about others then mc, when mc have to face death situations alone and have to become strong. He should have come alone like in slaughter city and adding xiao wu in this state is annoying as f it's not cute.if they thought a damsel in distress with no mind looks good nahhh it doesn't. I liked hu lien more .these step sibling relationship brother sister than lovers is sus.

It's difficult when your're the new kid in the group,while everybody else formed bonds survived countless pearls,and obstacles facing dangerous opponents. Growing as a family and now you realize that huge scale gap in power between them, and you. I feel for my girl " Bai" trying to prove herself as not being the supporting hardly do anything in the group.

Also its funny how everybody already established their coupling in the group, like please let " Fatty " have his love interest with " Bai" lol
